IO Interactive is a Copenhagen-based AAA video game studio and one of the most globally recognized Danish game developers. Founded in 1998, IO is best known for the Hitman franchise, a stealth-action series that has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The studio was originally part of Eidos Interactive and later Square Enix, before a landmark 2017 management buyout made it fully independent. Their World of Assassination trilogy — Hitman (2016), Hitman 2 (2018), and Hitman 3 (2021) — was acclaimed for its sandbox design philosophy and live service approach. IO Interactive also developed the Kane & Lynch series and Mini Ninjas, demonstrating versatility across genres. The studio is currently developing Project 007, an original James Bond game, marking one of the most high-profile licensing deals in the industry. IO Interactive has offices in Copenhagen, Malmö, and Barcelona, employing several hundred developers across disciplines. The studio is widely regarded as a cornerstone of the Danish and Nordic games industry.
